Trusted and True

  Speech refers to the public for a particular problem, bright, full published their own views and opinions, to clarify things, to carry on the propaganda of communicative activities. Sounds simple? Not quite. In order to touch and follow audiences' emotions, speechmakers should my different rhetorical ways to persuade people. Especially if speechmakers want to talk about a social problem, if he does not speak rhetorical, people are hard to understand. Now I am going to share a good speech talking about trusting.

  This is a speech that I heard in my high school. Professor asked a question:" Nowadays there are many crisis of confidence, whether you also think the trust has ceased to exist?" " what is the value of the trusting?" Then he told us a story:" There was a young girl in preschool, one day someone reported that she steals money in her class's locker. Her teacher called her parents to come. After mother knew the thing, she asked her daughter a simple question:' Did you steal?' 'No I didn't.' Girl replied quietly but firmly. ' Please don't blame her, I trust her.' Her mother said to teacher. The trusts in children's eyes are pure like spring, don't use adults' level to survey a child. In fact this is just a misunderstanding, the girl didn't steal. This is the trust from the girl, but it is also the trust from the mother. They are not actor, but even they are, they still have that innocence in their hearts." Then he continued:" There was a organization, they did a social research about the percentage of the people who are trusting strangers in China. The result is incredible, only thirty percents of people trust strangers. This is a tragic data, social trust crisis is unbelievable, why not we just treat others with all sincerity?"

  From that part of speech, we can see many rhetoric has been used. Professor gave us the exact data to help us realize the strict social situations. Then for logos, because of the crisis of confidence, teacher blamed the girl at the beginning, that is reasonable. For pathos, in order to tell people trust is such a great thing between people, he made a metaphor of innocence, it did fit in at this time. Speechmaker wants us to understand how important the trust is and he does make it. That made me start to think about how to treat others more sincere.

    The story about that girl and mother is a good story to enhance how important is trust,it is simple but hard for some people.

    Through your explanation of his speech, I learned a lot. Your high school professor's speech makes me to want to try to trust people. And I really like the little story.

Lift Off: Harvard Graduation Speech

Donovan Livingston graduated from Harvard University in 2016. He was asked to speak at the graduation so he did. Donovan wrote a poem called “Lift Off”. In it he spoke of his life. His ancestors and slavery. He spoke of a new hope. A hope that kids can have to reach for the stars and to be up with them. He spoke of how each and every person has the ability to succeed and to exceed any expectations set for them. In his closing line, Livingston said “They say that the sky's the limit, but it is only the beginning. Lift off.” His speech was one of power and he used many rhetorical devices. Marilyn Monroe's Shampoo

While browsing on Google I found an old advertisement.  The ad was for Lustre-Crème Shampoo. It featured Marilyn Monroe, known for her beauteous looks and her parts in different movies. One of her movies was Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Lustre-Crème was attempting to sell their shampoo through the use of fallacies. By saying that Marilyn Monroe that tells you nothing about the actual product: it simply attracts you to the pretty face in the picture. Using this as an argument of why someone should buy your product is quite illogical. Just because Marilyn Monroe uses it doesn’t provide assurance of its abilities. They attempt using snob appeal by trying to make the audience believe that they could be like Marilyn Monroe if they use the same product as her. They use appeal to illegitimate authority by using Marilyn Monroe to promote their product. Although she herself is a customer, this is still rather irrelevant.
