'I saw rhetoric was used in the article " Jeremy Lin Tries on His Newest Label: Solid NBA Player " on New York Times . The author of this article wanted the readers to believe that Jeremy Lin deserved his newest label as a solid basketball player, although multiple identities, such as undrafted underdog, franchise savior and overpaid mercenary, were foisted upon Jeremy Lin for the past five years. The author also wanted to convince us that Jeremy Lin has found out a new more comfortable status between the short-burst ecstasy of his time with the New York Knicks and the protracted bewilderment of his time with the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers. The argument of this article was reasonable. In order to prove that Jeremy Lin was a solid basketball player, the author provided the data that Jeremy Lin averaged 16.1 points per 36 minutes on the court during the regular season, which was his highest single-season average since his days in New York. Today I watched a speech from TED website , there was a speaker talking about phones and some tips to cell somebody or get some information , the whole speech was clear and funny.  According to that speech , the speaker was using ethos through the speech , he gave audiences many videos to support his point. For example , he found people still on phone call when they are moving from Wi-Fi to cellular tower , the phone in that video which just changed to cellular tower in mid-call. That video was really authoritative, because that was really event happened in his video , it was a good way to make more sense for what was he trying to explain or support. Not only many videos were help him , but also some example by using pathos. I heard rhetoric was used in a sermon , it was very useful to persuade people to agree their opinion. I saw the rhetoric was used in Colgate toothpaste advertisement . First of advertisement was a professor, he said this kind of tooth paste is a new one , and used new technology and elements , it can clean tooth very well , then used a cartoon to show it how to clean it and It had a research , after people eat apple there is blood on surface of apple , but after use that toothpaste it was solved .So it was ethos because it was looks like very professional. Secondly , it showed people get tooth decay , it was looks terrible and people’s emotion was painful , they were suffer a lot of pain , can’t eat food easily , then advertisement showed this toothpaste had a kind of element that can protect tooth like a shield.
