Cheez It

I have decided to do my blog post on a Cheez It commercial from Two Thousand Ten. The commercial starts out saying that they expect a lot from their cheese, saying that they actually care about what product they are giving to you.

Then the scene it cuts two is a scene that has a brick of cheese talking to a intelligent looking man. The doctor is trying to show that they use experts to evaluate their product and make sure it is a good product. During this scene they use humor, to make the viewer laugh,  between the cheese and the doctor or professional as it seems. The cheese tries to make a joke and then the man marks the cheese as not ready to be made, indicating that they care about their product.

The next scene shows the same doctor with the cheese again. Although this time the cheese talked in a more sophisticated way and sounded very proper. The man then went to check the box with the ready next to it indicating that the cheese was ready, showing the consumers that they only put the best cheese into their product.

Cheez It tries to use many ways to persuade their viewers into buying their product. They try to make you think professionals care for their products. They play with different emotions and draw the viewer in with them.

  1. Ya i always see those commercials, but i personally believe that they are not going towards the credibility standpoint but a humor standpoint. They do use some credibility but they just want you to laugh at their jokes.

  2. The Cheez It commercials are funny. I would not actually believe that they have their cheese inspected like that but some people may. Their use of humor is pretty good.

  3. Clayton I see the argument you are making but I don't fully agree with it. Instead of appealing to emotion, I think they are appealing to credibility instead, because they are using the scientists.

  4. I agree that they are trying to show that they care about how they are making their product even though the commercial has an illogical way of showing it, but I also agree with a previous comment about how they are also using Ethos to appeal to credibility. This is really good though.

  5. i never saw the commercial of the product, but you described the commercial well. I could easily follow your logic. But there is no good craker like Cheeze it!

Marilyn Monroe's Shampoo

While browsing on Google I found an old advertisement.  The ad was for Lustre-Crème Shampoo. It featured Marilyn Monroe, known for her beauteous looks and her parts in different movies. One of her movies was Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Lustre-Crème was attempting to sell their shampoo through the use of fallacies. By saying that Marilyn Monroe that tells you nothing about the actual product: it simply attracts you to the pretty face in the picture. Using this as an argument of why someone should buy your product is quite illogical. Just because Marilyn Monroe uses it doesn’t provide assurance of its abilities. They attempt using snob appeal by trying to make the audience believe that they could be like Marilyn Monroe if they use the same product as her. They use appeal to illegitimate authority by using Marilyn Monroe to promote their product. Although she herself is a customer, this is still rather irrelevant. Is Hip Hop a Cancer or a Cure?

The speech I watched was a Ted Talk presented by one of my favorite music artists, who just so happens to be a Christian rapper.  This rapper’s name is Lecrae Moore, but he just goes by Lecrae.  Over the past five years or so, Lecrae has been able to break out of the small box that Christian music and Christian rap have been put in, and he has been able to get his music out to all types of crowds.  So I was actually pretty excited when I saw that he had spoken at a Ted Talk in Nashville.  The speech he delivered was titled, “Heroes and Villains: Is Hip-Hop a Cancer or a Cure?”  In this speech Lecrae talked about how it is easy to look at certain people in history and label them as heroes or villains, but he talks about how not everyone views historical figures the same.  Lecrae started off by defining where we get the words, “Hero” and “Villain”.  Knowing the origin of these words really gave good context for what came to follow.  He then went o...
