During the super bowl a commercial for the new 2013
Chevy Silverado came on. Most people that watch the super bowl think that the
commercials are the best part, because they are usually hilarious, so Chevy
tried to go along with this theme. They placed a truck in the apocalypse
because at that time the Mayan calendar said that the world was going to end.
The man in the truck with his dog are driving through the scenes of the
apocalypse to go meet up with a group of friends. When they arrive one guy asks
where Dave is, and the other responds, “Dave did not drive the longest lasting,
most dependable truck on the road…..Dave drove a Ford.” Then the commercial ends by saying “From the
beginning of your work day, to the end of the world….Chevy runs deep.”
Chevy
in this commercial are trying to put down their competitors (Ford) and show
that their truck is more dependable, since it can last through in an
apocalypse. Chevy in a way are trying to use logos in this commercial because
they are trying to say if this car can survive an apocalypse it can survive the
toughest situations in life that we give it. Also in the commercial there was
an older Chevy truck that survived. With that they are trying to show that they
have the longest lasting truck. That the truck can survive through the times
and an apocalypse.
This
argument is very unreasonable because if there is an apocalypse I do not think
people would be worried about what type of truck they drive. Also in the
commercial it depicts that a bridge fell on the truck, and I do not think any
truck would be able to survive that, so this commercial is not the most
logical. I would not buy a Chevy truck purely based off of this commercial, but
I do think they were effective at getting their point across. By seeing this people
may go and research how long lasting and reliable the Silverado actually is.
I personally liked this commercial because it is so funny. As Brennan said,I think they tried to make it fun instead of logical reason. But, this commercial is effective because it made points throughout commercial.
ReplyDeleteGood job with describing what was happening in the commercial. You also did well with pointing out the fallacies that were used. i like how you look at the logic of the add too.
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with your statement "This argument is very unreasonable because if there is an apocalypse I do not think people would be worried about what type of truck they drive.". I would be concerned with what truck I want to buy during the apocalypses because I need to know what truck gets me away fastest and can carry around things sufficient for life.
