If anyone were to ask me who my favorite celebrity or musical artist was, I would automatically reply with Lindsey Stirling. Lindsey Stirling is a hip hop, dancing violinist who started her professional career in 2012. This past May, Stirling released her YouTube Red documentary, Brave Enough. It is so called because that is the title of her most recent album.
I saw the trailer as soon as it came out, when Stirling first mentioned the movie. The ad itself showed clips from her different concerts, featured songs from the Brave Enough album, and also incorporated scenes from some of her videos. She explains how the movie takes place in what seemed to so far be the hardest year of her life--the year her best friend had passed away due to cancer. Through this movie, she hopes to help others learn how to be brave, to be able to feel emotions that may be hard to feel. She says how she had fallen multiple times in the past, and “Every time you get up a little bit stronger.”
I would say that the argument of the movie did make sense. Stirling uses her personal experiences to share her story, which is an extremely emotional story. She wants to encourage people throughout this movie, and she has experienced hard things that normal people go through and can connect with the audience in this way. This attributes to pathos. She is also a truthful person, and the documentary is video proof of her struggles. This can be attributed to her ethos. The message itself would be having the courage to be vulnerable, to be brave enough to show yourself to the world. By isolating yourself in a bad way, you build walls around yourself and you end up trapped. She says that you should be able to love yourself. This argument can make sense, since it is important to love yourself and those around you in a good way, the way that God created you to love yourself. However, you cannot really love yourself without first loving God. Therefore, I would say that the logos of this argument is partially sound from a Christian perspective. From a secular perspective, it seems to be sound.
I would say that the argument was persuasive. It makes me want to see the documentary because it is a true and personal story of one of my heroes. Lindsey Stirling has greatly inspired me personally. Even though I have not seen the movie yet, I am still excited to learn from her how she has become brave enough.
I can really feel your passion for this topic and for your hero, and the emotions of this commercial through your words! I found the connections you made to Christianity interesting, as it was not a Christian commercial. It has made me curious to know more about this movie and violinist as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat analysis Talia! I love how you wrote about something you love. The message that you talk about is a very strong message that everyone should hear.
ReplyDeleteTalia- I really liked your topic not because of the person you decided to do, but because of her story. I think her story was really touching. I think that when an artist can connect with their fans it makes them unforgettable. It also makes their fans feel the same way they felt when everything was happening to them. Good topic.

Great job Talia for effectively showcasing the Christian perspective in Lindsey Sterling’s Brave Enough. It was also very interesting to learn more about Lindsey Sterling since I am not very familiar about her new album or her personal story.
