4 Years ago, I saw an impressive commercial in TV. It was not advertisement to introduce product to make profit. It was public service advertisement about wasting tissue. In advertisement, it was showing tissue machine that we can easily see in public places. There was shape of Africa at the middle of tissue machine and it was filled with green tissue. By pulling out the tissue the green part of the tissue become black, then advertisement was saying “Please don’t waste tissue, Earth is dying.” By this commercial Korean government provided same tissue machine in commercial. Also, many places in Korea, started campaign to save tissue. In this advertisement, the main purpose was to tell people about the problem in society and make them to recognize and fix the problem. For this advertisement, it was very effective and reasonable. One year after this commercial, Korean government checked the change in amount of tissue used. By one year, the amount of tissue usage decreased 20 percent. In this advertisement they used Logos. They just used facts about wasting tissue to advertise the issue in our society. Also, we could say they used Pathos. By using shape of Africa, it represented the hardness in poor countries of Africa. Also, Africa usually represent the nature. By using shape of Africa on tissue machine, advertisement company tried to touch people’s feeling and also make them feel responsible about the issue. But this advertisement did not use the Ethos. They did not provide any specific data or interview of professor. I think it would be better to make other people trust if they post the specific data or chart to describe how much waste do we provide. Still, I think this commercial was very impressive and effective commercial even it was not to sell product and make profit.
While browsing on Google I found an old advertisement. The ad was for Lustre-Crème Shampoo. It featured Marilyn Monroe, known for her beauteous looks and her parts in different movies. One of her movies was Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Lustre-Crème was attempting to sell their shampoo through the use of fallacies. By saying that Marilyn Monroe that tells you nothing about the actual product: it simply attracts you to the pretty face in the picture. Using this as an argument of why someone should buy your product is quite illogical. Just because Marilyn Monroe uses it doesn’t provide assurance of its abilities. They attempt using snob appeal by trying to make the audience believe that they could be like Marilyn Monroe if they use the same product as her. They use appeal to illegitimate authority by using Marilyn Monroe to promote their product. Although she herself is a customer, this is still rather irrelevant. She herself has no type of expertise in hair products and knows nothing that
May I speak frankly, I am very sensible of the striving effort you put in your blog post, but it would be better if you could starts another paragraph when new idea was introduced in this blog post, it would be a more perspicuous reading.
