Last summer, when I was in Korea, I had chance to listen one of the great sermon from the pastor. He was the pastor who came from Canada, and I got the ticket to go and listen to his sermon. He was having sermon about his travel throughout the world. He told us that he was a missionary before he become a pastor. So he traveled a lot of countries to spread the gospel. Then he started to tell on of his trip which he experienced a great miracle. He said he was persecuted by spreading a gospel. He said he gave up his life and waiting for his death. Then night before his judgement he had a vision and angel told him God will solve all the problem for him. Then he got up and there was a Bible next to him. The Bible was opened and it was showing Bible verse, John 3:16. It was about everyone who believe in God will be saved and live eternal life. After he read that verse, he had to go to his judgement. So he was getting ready to go to court and get his judgement. But as he arrived it was not a court. The police who was taking care of him took him to port and helped him to escape. So the pastor escaped from there and become saved. By this sermon, I was really impressed because I have never experienced a miracle in my life. For this sermon he mainly used logos because he have mentioned specific verse of Bible to explain his sermon. Not just logos, but also used pathos by telling his experience. It helped audience to understand the pastor’s mind even they did not experience in their life. So I believe his sermon was a great and very effective sermon.
While browsing on Google I found an old advertisement. The ad was for Lustre-Crème Shampoo. It featured Marilyn Monroe, known for her beauteous looks and her parts in different movies. One of her movies was Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Lustre-Crème was attempting to sell their shampoo through the use of fallacies. By saying that Marilyn Monroe that tells you nothing about the actual product: it simply attracts you to the pretty face in the picture. Using this as an argument of why someone should buy your product is quite illogical. Just because Marilyn Monroe uses it doesn’t provide assurance of its abilities. They attempt using snob appeal by trying to make the audience believe that they could be like Marilyn Monroe if they use the same product as her. They use appeal to illegitimate authority by using Marilyn Monroe to promote their product. Although she herself is a customer, this is still rather irrelevant. She herself has no type of expertise in hair products and knows nothing that
This was very interesting! When I read about modern-day miracles, I can't help but be impressed. This is also very striking in its message of caring. It shows that, although we are not promised a perfect life, Christians have God always watching over them.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great by just hearing a person talking about the miracle he experienced in his own view. This must be a really convincing sermon!
